Öland-Americaday in Runsten
It was now the thirteenth time we celebrated the Öland-Americaday.
The last years has it always been in Tornlunden, Runsten. This time was the first time it was moved inside to Rungården because of the rain.
There was almost a fullfilled local with people who wanted to celebrate this day for relatives in America and the emigrants to America from Öland.
Karl-Eric Jakobsson and Ulf Bejbom was speakers. Headspeaker was the expastor in swedish church in New York,Jan Madestam, who also has been pastor in Runsten-Långlöt some years ago.
We have since many years ago very good relations with the US ambassady in Stockholm, the ex ambassador Michael Wood visited Borgholm last spring and I visited the ambassady together with the chairman and director for our region last year on the
4th of July. Independence day. Last year was Mr Robert Silverman visiting our Öland-Americaday and this year was it Mr Rick La Roche who represented the US ambassady.
Both he and Jan Madestam had very nice speeches, but the most unexpected and beautiful happening this day was the quire. It was just ordinary people from the area around Runsten, they had repreated in less time then a month but they was just georgius!!!
There was some song from the musical Kristina in Duvemåla, but Gabriellas song from the movie Såsom i himmelen was really something extraordinary!! It was wonderful and beautiful both the song and the arrangement.
It was rather difficult to speak after the quire, bur I had som really nice greeting from our dear friends John and Barbara in th Öland-Americaclub in Rockford and wanted also of course to do some promotion fro the exhibition at VIDAmuseum this autumn with artists from Rockford.
